Iconic milk bar, Anna's Takeaway, has been loved by locals since the early seventies. Anna has now left the building and it's now a pizza place in her name.

A lovely old building and a Newtown landmark. My kids loved this place.

I've always had a soft spot for this building. Not at all glamorous with its faded lace curtains and old tiles. It's no longer a butcher's shop but is now one of the coolest bars in Newtown. I love that the new owners didn't change the façade - they even left the pickle jars in the window.

Adorned with vases of roses and lion heads! I decided not to draw all the air-conditioners and signage on this one... didn't want to ruin all the fab Victorian fancy bits. I call this one The Cake.

Established on King Street in the early 80s, Clem's is a much-loved local institution.

No longer a working flour mill - it's now Flourmill Studios. Fab office spaces and a cafe inside with lots of the lovely old industrial details remaining.

This unusual building on King Street has always caught my eye. Not sure if there are windows upstairs or not. Can people see out? Is it one big box? I've never been too sure.

The Enmore Theatre has seen everyone from The Wiggles to the Stones. A grand old building in the heart of Newtown.

Sadly, this Newtown institution was seriously damaged by fire in November 2018. It is currently being rebuilt!

Tucked away amongst the terraces and cafes of Australia Street, this little brick and tiled building is one-of-a-kind.

I love this red brick building in the middle of Newtown with all of its arched windows. It features the iconic 'I Have a Dream' mural created in 1991 by artists Juilee Pryor and Andrew Aiken and is a much-loved Newtown landmark.

Once a local Hoyts, but hasn't been used as a cinema since the late 50s - only the façade has remained. This building really shines on King Street on a sunny day.

In reality this building has holes in the brick work and is rusty and neglected. I thought it could do with a a bit of a makeover. I love the round brick detail.

The Marie-Louise Salon on Enmore Road was loved by locals. When you walk through the pink salon door these days, you find yourself in a Turkish restaurant! I love that they kept the tiled façade. To get a feel for Marie-Louise in her glory days - go to the link below.

The Mulberry Street Vintage Store has now moved on. Currently empty.

Newtown loves its Firies - for keeping us safe - and entertained! Their ever-changing sign on the front of the building is becoming legendary.

Smack bang in the middle of Newtown. Everything you could possibly need in one place... haircuts, yoga classes, Vietnamese holidays... But really I just love to draw buildings with lots of air-conditioners.

No longer the local PO - it's been transformed into shops and apartments - but the beautiful old façade remains.

My boys have now moved on to High School - but this place, Newtown Public School, was the centre of their universe for seven years!

Once the local Town Hall, now the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre. Look closely and you will see a little gnome keeping watch.

This 19th Century building has housed everything from an ice-skating rink and dance hall to a boxing arena. It was derelict for years but these days it stands proudly on King Street - restored to its former glory.
